3AFF 8th EDITION – A MUST-ATTEND EVENT! A CULTURAL SHOWCASE OPENING ONTO THE WORLD This intense, five-day event offers billing to more than 100 films from all corners of the Americas and thus stands out as a unique window opening onto Quebec, Canada, the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, among other countries and regions. This year, for the first time, the Americas will be reaching out to all four corners of the planet with a newly created international section. As the originator and organizer of the Vue sur Bond 007 fundraising event held in February 2006, the Festival de cinéma des 3 Amériques / 3 Americas Film Festivalwas honoured with the Prix Ville de Québec award at the 20th edition of the Prix d’excellence des arts et de la culture. The award, made annually by the City of Québec, is intended to highlight the dynamic, high-quality and original work and achievements of an organization or professional cultural/artistic group operating in Québec City whose 2005-06 season proved to be a resounding success. DISCOVERING THE 3 AMERICAS Founded in 1999 under the name of “Images du Nouveau Monde,” the annual crowning event for Québec City film aficionados changed its name in 2004 to the Festival de cinéma des 3 Amériques (FC3A) / 3 Americas Film Festival (3AFF). The mission of the festival remains unchanged: to present films from throughout the American continent and, at the same time, to bring together creators with the objective of celebrating and sharing their culture and vision of the world. Born of the desire to endow Québec City with a genuine film festival and to distinguish it from other events associated with the Seventh Art, the Festival de cinéma des 3 Amériques / 3 Americas Film Festival strives to offer an original, wide-ranging program of events, with the spotlight on independent productions. CROSSING BOUNDARIES The international renown of this event testifies to the desire of the organizers of the Festival de cinéma des 3 Amériques / 3 Americas Film Festival to break down borders and to build a cultural bridge between the Americas. Considered to be a genuine celebration of the Seventh Art, the event not only provides a lively forum for debate among filmmakers from here and abroad, it also serves as a direct interface between the artists and the general public — a function facilitated in large part by the legendary hospitality of Québec City’s inhabitants. Since August 2004, the Festival d’été international de Québec, through its affiliate Inter-Nation-Art (INA), has been responsible for managing the Festival de cinéma des 3 Amériques / 3 Americas Film Festival. The Festival d’été international de Québec’s management expertise has proven to be indispensable to the growth and smooth operation of the Festival de cinéma des 3 Amériques / 3 Americas Film Festival.
